Financial Literacy

Financial Literacy students at Nixon elementary are working on Building their own Business.  They are creating 30 second commercials for their business and a model of what their store will look like.
They had to go through multiple business options before deciding what their final business was going to be.  It had to be something that they had the expertise in and it also had to be something that would make a profit.

Our Future Business Leaders of tomorrow are working hard to make their ideas reality :)

Math Challenge

Math Challenge students have been working hard to solve difficult problems by using various strategies. Our first two strategies are : Guess and Check and Draw a Picture.  We work on a problem together as a large group and then the students break up into smaller groups to tackle the problems as a team.
Keep up the great work Math Challenge students!

Global Literature

Students in Global Literature (2nd and 3rd grade) have been reading stories from South and North America.  They are also creating their own page entitled, Children Just Like Me.  The students have the opportunity to explain their own culture through the use of pictures and text just like the characters in our book.

Shakespeare

Students at Nixon elementary have been working on learning about Shakespeare : the history, his plays and the Elizabethan age of writing and speaking.  They have been acting out his play The Twelfth Night.
The students also created their own Iambic pentameter poems that they performed for the class.
In the words of Shakespeare: "To be, or not to be, that is the question"

Fairy Tales on Trial

Our Fairy Tales on Trial teams are preparing for their first trial.  This week we had Mr. Marty Hagge as a guest speaker in our Fairy Tales on Trial classes.  He gave an overview of a trial and the judicial system.  The students will now prepare their Opening/Closing statements and questions for the witnesses.
Mr. McGregor will be going on trial for attempted murder and assault of Peter Rabbit. Will he be found GUILTY OR NOT GUILTY?
